בהמשך ליוזמות המבקשות לאיים על צביונה של מדינת ישראל כמדינה יהודית ודמוקרטית, אנו באוניברסיטה העברית מבקשים להדגיש בפני קהילת האוניברסיטה- סטודנטים, סטודנטיות, חברי סגל מנהלי ואקדמי, כי נמשיך לפעול לקידום ערכים המקדמים שוויון מלא, חירות, חופש וכבוד האדם באשר הוא.
כחברה מתוקנת עלינו להוקיע שיח מגזרי המבקש להשיג עליונות ולהדיר אוכלוסיות שלמות מהסדר החברתי העדין הקיים במדינת ישראל.
כאוניברסיטה הישראלית המובילה בעולם, אסור לנו להשלים עם תהליכי פופוליזם והקצנה המתקיימים בשיח הפוליטי המחלחלים לחיי היום יום של כולנו.
בימים אלה עלינו להציב דגל שחור בפני ההקצנה, לעודד קבלת האחר וסובלנות.
כנשיא האוניברסיטה, המנכ"ל והרקטור אנו מבקשים מכם- אל תיתנו לקולות הקיצוניים להשפיע על עיצובכם ועיצוב דור העתיד של מדינת ישראל.

Good evening,
In response to the various concepts and initiatives being publicly promoted that would directly impact on Israel’s identity as a Jewish and democratic state, we at the Hebrew University feel it imperative to address the entire University community- students and academic staff alike- of our firm commitment to continue to uphold values of equality, liberty, freedom and respect for our fellow humans.
Living in a civil society, it is incumbent upon us to denounce any forms of sectorial speech intent upon creating superiority, or messages designed to alienate any specific groups or populations from within the fragile fabric that is our modern Israeli society.
As the world’s leading Israeli university, we cannot condone or stand silent in the face of those populist or extremist efforts that are increasingly appearing within the political discourse - and pervading our daily lives.
At this moment, it is therefore critical that we express our firm and unwavering disgust and opposition in the face of such extremism, and pledge to do all that is necessary to encourage a more tolerant dialogue in acceptance of the other.
As the University President, Rector and CEO we implore all of you: Do not allow voices of extremism to influence that commitment to diversity in our times - nor the diversity that will define the very future of the State of Israel.

في أعقاب المبادرات التي تسعى إلى تهديد صبغة دولة إسرائيل كدولة يهوديّة وديمقراطيّة، نودّ في الجامعة العبرية أن نؤكد لمجتمع الجامعة - طلّابًا وطالبات، وأعضاء الهيئتين الإداريّة والأكاديميّة، أنّنا سنواصل العمل على تعزيز قيم المساواة التامّة، الحرّيّة وكرامة الإنسان كونه إنسانًا.
بصفتنا مجتمعًا سليمًا، يجب أن نُدين خطاب التفرقة إلى قطاعات الذي يسعى إلى تحقيق الاستعلائيّة وإقصاء فئات سكّانيّة بأكملها من النظام الاجتماعيّ الحسّاس القائم في دولة إسرائيل.
بصفتنا الجامعة الإسرائيليّة الرائدة في العالم، لا يجوز لنا أن نقبل هذه السيرورات الشعبويّة والتطرّف التي تسود الخطاب السياسيّ الذي يتسرّب إلى حياتنا جميعًا.
يجب علينا أن نرفع في هذه الأيّام الراية السوداء في وجه التطرّف، ونشجع تقبُّل الآخر والتسامح.
وعليه كلّمنّا من موقعه، رئيس الجامعة، المدير العامّ وركتور الجامعة، نناشدكم ألّا تدعوا الأصوات المتطرّفة تؤثّر على تشكيل شخصيّاتكم وتشكيل شخصيّة جيل المستقبل لدولة إسرائيل.
